In the follow up to the Progression Document we have posted, we take a deep dive into Computing. Having researched some 'typical' questions being asked, I have shared what my responses would be in relation to the progression document and everything else we've shared on the website.

HERE IT IS! It has taken a long time to get this together but I feel it is worth the wait. We feel this is the most comprehensive progression document for computing and should help you and your school demonstrate clear progression from EYFS-Year 6 with Computing. Please read page that explains how to best implement the document as this explains the best way to embed all the ideas through the supporters page. UPDATED JAN 2023 - We have now added a new strand of Artificial Intelligence under the Computer Science element. UPDATED OCT 2022 - We have updated the progression doc to be more knowledge focused, include key vocabulary and update some objectives and updating links to relevant apps and programs. Download the progression of skills here:
We are ready to share all of the documents we have been working hard on over the past few weeks. These will hopefully support schools in embedding computing in relation to the new inspection framework. The first document is the Intent, Implementation and Impact statement. As explained in the document, this is based solely on my approach from the CPD I offer and the way we approach the website. We encourage your school to change, adapt and better reflect in relation to your school's vision. THIS HAS BEEN UPDATED JANUARY 2023 Download here:
Building on from the previous video, we have take all the statements from the whole school progression documents and sorted them into Year Group Overviews. This gives every teacher a clear outline of what needs to be covered over the year. UPDATED JAN 2023 - We have now added a new strand of Artificial Intelligence under the Computer Science element. UPDATED OCT 2022 - We have now updated this document to make it more knowledge based, include key vocabulary and change some of statements and updating links to relevant apps and programs Here is a link to download the document:
Here is the final idea in this topic looking at Rocks. In this video, children can record their investigation by creating videos documenting every aspect of the investigation. By allowing children to create videos the main focus of the lesson can be on the science rather than writing it all up in books.
In this next idea in the series linked to Rocks, we look at creating our own compost bins. To document and explore what the children have created and why, they can make a webpage featuring the different layers.
Here is the next idea linked to the topic of Rocks. In this video, we learn about Mary Anning and how important she was in fossil discovery. Children can share their learning by creating videos interviewing Mary.
Here is the next idea in the series linked to Rocks. After learning about fossils in the previous video, children can apply that knowledge by creating an interactive guide to how fossils are created.
In this next idea linked to the topic of Rocks, learners look at classifying rocks based on their properties. As part of an investigation exploring different types of rocks, learners can document their findings by creating a video orally explaining their understanding.
Here is the next idea in the topic linked to Rocks. In this video, we look at creating a database where we can sort different types of rocks based on their properties.
Here is the next idea linked to the topic of Rocks. In this video, we look at sorting rocks into categories of natural and man-made. Further discussions around uses and properties can be recorded when the work is uploaded to Seesaw.
Here is the next idea in the series linked to Rocks. In this video, children can demonstrate their learning about how rocks can change over time by creating an animation.
In this next idea linked to the topic of rocks, children explore different types of rocks. Pupils demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of different types of rocks by creating a video. This makes the learning more engaging and accessible for all pupils.
Here is the next idea linked to the topic of Rocks. In this idea, learners think about different places where they have seen rocks and share their ideas by creating a collage poster. Discussions can look at the types of rocks you find in these locations.
Here is the first video in a BRAND NEW Topic Page linked to the Science topic of Rocks. Remember these videos are not a scheme of work but rather a collection of ideas which teachers can dip into alongside work in exercise books.
In this first video, learners share what prior knowledge they are bringing to this topic by creating a video exploring what they already know about Rocks. Here is the next idea in the topic linked to Rocks. In this video, we look at exploring and learning about Fossils. Children can use Virtual Reality or Augmented Reality to really immerse themselves in this topic.
In this last video in the series linked to Ancient Egypt, child explore different Egyptian Gods. They then create an interactive guide to these Gods sharing different facts about each one.
In this next video linked to Ancient Egypt, we consider what precious items we would keep in our tomb if we were Egyptian Pharaohs. The children can then create a collage sharing some of the things they would include.
In the next video linked to Ancient Egypt, we look at selling Egyptian Artefacts. The children can plan, write and then record their own advert in a similar light to Horrible Histories.
Here is the next video in the series linked to Ancient Egypt. In this video, we look at creating videos where we label, discuss and explain some of the artefacts found in tombs.
In this next video linked to Ancient Egypt, we look at creating news reports about the discovery of different tombs, mummies and artefacts. This gives learners the perfect opportunity to creatively demonstrate their learning around the discoveries made but also what was found inside the tombs.
Here is the next video in the series linked to Ancient Egypt. In this video, we look at learning more about Howard Carter and record children sharing what they have learnt about him and his life.
Here is the next idea in the series of videos linked to Ancient Egypt. In this video, we look at creating a greenscreen film to explain how King Tutankhamun's tomb was discovered. If the children have used the idea from the previous video to create a storyboard, this is how they can perform that storyboard.
Following on from idea 10, this video looks at taking the images created in the previous video to create an interactive comic. This idea brings a more empowering and creative way to retell this significant historical event.
