Following on from this video - creating-an-effective-atmosphere-with-story-writing.html here is an app that allows you to explore characters with your class. They might create their own characters, create a character based on a description in a book or if you create a character, you can develop simple inference and deduction skills - http://mrparkinsonict.blogspot.com/…/simple-inference-and-d…

A follow up video to this one -
Here is an activity to develop the idea of Pathetic Fallacy. Using the characters from the film Inside Out, you can discuss different elements which can help learners when writing their own story. This video may also help too - deconstructing-the-prologue-to-the-creakers-by-tom-fletcher.html Something a little bit different. With a curriculum that can often focus too much on the technical aspects of writing, this video just shares the importance in valuing storytelling and how as teachers we can promote that.
Here is another great way to use the Explain Everything app. You can create video tutorials to explain how to solve questions and clearly demonstrate each step. This can be done in Seesaw but as you will see in the video, Explain Everything has so many other options.
Here is another useful way to use emojis in class. If, like me, your handwriting and drawing skills are questionable, emojis can be a great way to visualise storytelling and new features make it even easier to add emojis to stories and plans.
Mr Tullock brings another fantastic video sharing a brilliant way to encourage readers by enabling them to create audiobooks in Explain Everything. This can then be shared far and wide, supporting younger children and promoting reading throughout the school!
Here is Dr Chips' Computing CPD video this week. He shares another great little gem in scratch to help make projects more efficient.
Here is a quick little idea I did with Year 2 last week linked to their science topic on the human life cycle. Using the app ageing booth -
In this video, I explain how the Seesaw Family app can help reduce workload by contributing to the majority of the end of year report. I discuss whether the end of year report is fit for purpose and whether we should continue the way it has been over the past few years. Here is a link to the report template I mentioned in the video:
This week, Dr Chips explores how he approaches programming in two steps to ensure it is done purposefully.
In this video, Mr Tullock shares an in-depth look at some of the amazing features in Book Creator and how they can be used to enhance learning in Science.
Another feature of Seesaw which is absolutely FREE is the Family app. This allows parents to connect to their child's portfolio, allowing them to see all the amazing learning in your class. This video explains how to enable it. Here is a link to the letter mentioned in the video, that you may want to use and adapt as you see fit. Click here for Seesaw's GDPR letter
In this video I demonstrate how you can take a student's drawing and turn it into a 360 image that can then be explored in Figment AR. The potential to this idea is huge. We have been using it for habitats in year 4 but can be adapted for story settings, historical settings or other places around the world and beyond!
After a request from a subscriber, I have created a video demonstrating how to download videos from YouTube using the Shortcuts app.
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/shortcuts/id915249334?mt=8 Here are the two shortcuts mentioned in the video, remember to open these in Safari. True HD Youtube Downloader - https://www.icloud.com/shortcuts/50df0093abd5407bab1bd61fddf25e0d Download Video - https://www.icloud.com/shortcuts/ae06b7ce50984b4e89b4ed30d14e8e55 Mr Tullock is back with another belting idea for Book Creator, one of my favourite apps. A great way to evaluate learning purposefully by students acting as experts.
This idea has so many cross-curricular opportunities which I am sure we will explore with more videos. This week, Dr Chips explores Computing at School and the communities they are trying to create to give teachers support to make the most out of their computing curriculum.
Check it out here - https://www.computingatschool.org.uk/ Mozilla X-Ray Goggles is a fantastic tool which allows you to 'hack' a website. The opportunities to publish pupil's writing or teach key digital literacy skills are endless. This video explores how to enable the tool and ideas to use it in class.
Add the tool to your web browser here - https://goggles.mozilla.org/en-US May the 4th be with you!
As it is Star Wars day, I thought I would share this greenscreen project we did a few years back. In the video, I explore some of Alan Peat's Exciting Sentences that link in well. As well as demonstrate how to create your finished video. Click here to watch a video explaining how to download background music from Youtube - adding-special-effects-to-greenscreen-videos.html Click here to watch a more in depth video on how I model writing - how-i-do-sharedmodelled-writing.html Here is a link to download the background footage - https://drive.google.com/open?id=14TLUuxa24pGaQqBG407whS9YKGC9A86Z Blogging can be an incredibly powerful tool to give children a real global audience for their learning. I have discussed the power of blogging in a previous video. This video demonstrates the easiest way to set up a class blog through Seesaw.
Continuing our work with measurement in Maths, here is another activity we did recently which challenged to solve a problem in maths but document the process by recording videos explaining how they solved the problem. This idea can be easily adapted to any problem solving challenges.
In this video I explore a fantastic showcase Augmented Reality app - Figment AR. It has inspired some incredible writing from my pupils which you can see here - https://www.facebook.com/IctWithMrP/videos/997963453700540/
I have previously mentioned this app in another video but wanted to showcase it in more detail. |
