This was a fantastic project we did with our Digital Leaders a while ago. To showcase our wonderful school, we created an interactive guide to our school which is now the official tour of our school website. See what we created here - http://davyhulmeprimary.com/our-school/tour/
7/30/2019 OUR LOCAL AREA AND BEYOND KS1 GEOGRAPHY IDEA 2 - Exploring a bird's-eye view of the schoolRead NowHere is the second idea in the series looking at Our Local Area and Beyond. In this video, we explore how to capture a bird's-eye view of the school grounds and then capture our understanding of where things are that can be done orally or with text labels.
In this video, we look at another way to explore a character's feelings/motives/actions by interviewing them through ChatterPix Kids. This idea can easily be adapted to any other story and provides an accessible way for pupils to show empathy and understanding to characters.
Here is a video exploring a simple but effective way for pupils in KS1 to retell stories you may be reading in class. The app Shadow Puppets Edu allows pupils to orally record over pictures giving them the opportunity to develop vocabulary and other key reading skills. We used this idea linked to the story Granny's Quilt in Year 2 but this can be easily adapted to any picture book.
Here's another way to explore picture books with Apple Clips. Using the speech bubble effect and record button, children can think in role as a character exploring their thoughts, motives and feelings. Again, even though we use this idea with Flotsam, it can easily be adapted to any other picture book.
In this video, we explore how children can orally record and explore a picture book making inferences, predictions and deductions without worrying about the barrier of writing. In this example we look at Flotsam but this idea should be adaptable to any other picture book with KS2.

The final idea linked to Seasons explores how pupils can share their knowledge and understanding of animals and how they hibernate, adapt and migrate as the seasons change. This idea gives every pupil, no matter what their ability with writing, the opportunity to share their learning in a creative way.
Idea number 5 in the series linked to Seasons in KS1. In this video, children create their own quiz on the app Tinytap sharing their knowledge about which type of clothes we wear in each season. The finished quizzes can be shared with the world!
Idea number 4 in this series looking at the KS1 topic of Seasons. In this video, we explore using Greenscreen to let children describe the weather of all four seasons. This gives pupils the opportunity to share their knowledge and understanding of how weather changes and also how we change by what we wear.
Idea number 3 in the series linked to Seasons in KS1 . This would be a direct follow on from idea number 2 seasons-idea-2-going-on-an-autumn-walk.html. Children create collages with pictures and text sharing everything they know about different seasons. They can then record over the top exploring these ideas in more detail.
Here is idea number 2 in the series linked to the Seasons topic in KS1 - https://www.mrpict.com/seasons.html. In this video, children take their devices on an Autumn walk capturing signs and images showing it is Autumn. Please adapt this idea if you end up doing this topic in a different season.
My favourite classroom tool - Seesaw - has had a recent update adding a new layout to the creative drawing tool. This video gives a quick demonstration of these updates with plenty more ideas coming soon!
The last idea in the series linked to Animals including Humans - https://www.mrpict.com/animals-including-humans.html. This last idea looks at using Apple Clips for children to discuss why and how to keep their teeth healthy after the tooth decay investigation.
Following on from learning about our teeth with this idea - exploring-our-teeth-with-apple-clips.html. This idea looks at planning an investigation using Seesaw linked to the Post-it Science Planning Sheet. You can download the planning sheet here:
Following on from Idea 1 - animals-including-humans-year-4-idea-1-classifying-animals.html, this video looks at using Keynote to create food chains and food webs. This allows children to share their knowledge and understanding in a creative way, export it as a video to share with the world!
We have now started to put together the next topic page - Animals including Humans in Year 4. We've already posted a few ideas as this was something I did with my class earlier this year. This first idea looks at creating a simple Venn Diagram to sort animals in herbivores, omnivores and carnivores.
Here is Dr Chips' Computer Science Video this week. In this video, he explores the website - https://codecombat.com/, a fantastic way to further support learners with coding in an engaging and fun way.
Last week, iMovie released a big update adding in a range of new features. The stand out option being the ability to use greenscreen within iMovie. Although I would still use Doink Greenscreen as my go-to Greenscreen app, as Doink is a paid app, iMovie gives you a free alternative.
