For anyone who saw Greta Thunberg's address to World Leaders this week, I have put together a comprehension lesson exploring the speech. Not only will the questions help apply key comprehension skills, but the topic is so important, it would hopefully lead to some fantastic discussion, writing and actions.

Here is a last minute idea for linking computer science to International Languages day tomorrow - Thursday 26th September. Dr Chips explores using Scratch Jnr to Languages which he did with his Year 2 class today.
In this final video linked to the Rang-tan project, we look at using all our research to create our own class eBook in Book Creator which we can then publish to the iBooks store for the world to download - https://support.bookcreator.com/hc/en-us/articles/201908201-Publishing-to-the-iBooks-Store.
In the build up to creating a class ebook about Orang-utans, we need to research and share facts and information we find from researching online. To do this, we can use the online tool Mentimeter as a way to collect everyone's ideas and share it to seesaw for the whole class to access.
9/24/2019 THERE'S A RANG-TAN IN MY BEDROOM PROJECT - IDEA 6 - WRITING TO COMPANIES ABOUT PALM OilRead NowThe next video in this series linked to the Rang-Tan project looks at learners writing persuasive letters to all the companies linked to dirty palm oil. Dirty palm oil is palm oil from deforestation and many companies, mentioned in this document
https://www.greenpeace.org/…/gp_IND_PalmScorecard_FINAL.pdf… all have links to Dirty Palm Oil. This video explores writing and performing their writing before sharing it with them. 9/24/2019 THERE'S A RANG-TAN IN MY BEDROOM PROJECT - IDEA 5 - Adding Animated Text To VideosRead NowHere's the next video linked to the Rang-Tan project. In this video, we explore how to add animated text onto our Greenscreen videos. Using the app Videorama, we can add a different layer to our videos to enhance the finished projects further before sharing and publishing our work.
9/24/2019 THERE'S A RANG-TAN IN MY BEDROOM PROJECT - IDEA 4 - Performing Our Writing with GreenscreenRead NowIn the next video in the series linked to the Rang-tan project, we look at using Greenscreen to perform our writing. To enhance the video further, I explore using GIFs as an animated background in our Greenscreen projects.
In this next video linked to the Rang-Tan project, I share some of Alan Peat's brilliant sentence types that will help with out first writing project. Pupils will write a story as an Orang-utan seeing their home being destroyed.
This is an example of a modelled/shared writing session in the build up to children independently writing their own piece. Here is the next video in our Rang-tan project. In this video, we look at deconstructing the language features and sentence structures of a text in Seesaw to help us understand the techniques and features we will need to include in our writing.
Here is the first in a new series of videos based on a project I did with my class last year. It was all inspired by this advert from Greenpeace - https://youtu.be/3Ha6xUVqezQ.
In this video, we explore the advert, including some comprehension questions I've put together here - https://drive.google.com/…/115UrGoYRdBOwwy8Ac2pf6E4Fp…/view… and also using Seesaw to generate some descriptive phrases. Here is the last video linked to the topic of Rainforests. In this video, we look at bringing all our work together from the previous few lessons to create an interactive eBook that we can share online for the world to see. There will be another series of videos looking at raising awareness and protecting the rainforest so... watch this space.
Here is the next video in the series linked to the Rainforest. In this video, we explore how learners can creatively share their learning about the different layers of the rainforest, including the weather, types of plants and animals and any other interesting information.
Here is the next video in the series linked to Rainforests. In this video, we look at creating a class interactive map of rainforests. We can embed our videos from the previous idea onto a world maps and share it with the world to demonstrate all our learning about different rainforests. There is also the option to create it as a VR experience.
Here is another video linked to Rainforests. In this video, we look at comparing the weather and climate of the rainforest to where we live. We can look at the average temperature or rainfall and create a chart that we can then orally analyse, exploring our findings and considering why they are different.
The next video in the series linked to Rainforest focuses on children researching different rainforests around the world. After generating as series of questions, they can then present their findings as a fact file video using Adobe Spark Video.
The next idea in the series linked to the topic of Rainforests looks at locating where in the world they are. This idea is split in two parts - a pre learning task where children guess where the rainforests are before learning and then putting the locations in the correct place on a map.
In the next video linked to the topic of the Rainforests, we look at researching and answering some of the questions we generated in the first video. Utilising the creative tools in Seesaw, we can make the task more accessible to all learners.
Here is the first video in a new series looking at creative ways to use technology to enhance the topic of Rainforests. In this video, we look at using Mentimeter to share everything we already know about the Rainforest and also generating questions we want answering during the topic.
Another great idea from Dr Chips and https://barefootcas.org.uk. This time exploring how search engines work and how results are ranked. An important aspect of the computing curriculum for children to learn and understand.
Another great idea from Dr Chips. Getting your pupils to go on a network hunt is a great way for them to learn more about networking, how it works and why we do it. https://barefootcas.org.uk
Dr Chips is back with his first video of the new academic year. In this video, he shares Scratch Jnr for desktop, a great tool to introduce coding for younger pupils.
Another great workflow tip. Many schools now have moved to the cloud using Google Drive or Office 365. In this video, I demonstrate how to use the website Zapier.com to create a Zap that will link Google Drive to your Facebook page. If for example, you create a Google Drive Folder 'Letters Home' Zapier makes sure that whenever you put a document in that folder, it will automatically post a link to that letter to your Facebook page. Once it is set up, it does it without you having to do anything. This can not only save teachers and staff loads of time, if the majority of parents are linked into your Facebook page, you don't have to print letters, saving you money.
Here's another great little workflow tip that allows you to link your school Facebook page to Twitter. This means rather than having to post twice, one on each platform, you create a post on Facebook and it automatically tweets it to your school twitter account. This is something I use personally as well as a school.
