BEEGU IDEA 1 - EXPLORING THE FRONT COVER

Here is the first in a new series of videos linked to the book - Beegu by Alexis Deacon. In these videos we hope to demonstrate how technology can be used to enhance reading and allow pupils to explore a book in a creative way.

This first idea looks at getting learners to make some inferences and deductions about the front cover.

BEEGU IDEA 2 - SEQUENCING THE STORY

BEEGU IDEA 3 - BEEGU FEELINGS GRAPH

​Here is another idea linked to the book of Beegu. In this video, we look at exploring how Beegu must feel at different parts of the story. To do this we can create a feelings graph and share images from the book to link to how Beegu is feeling at the point.

BEEGU IDEA 4 - WHAT IS BEEGU SAYING?

Here is another idea linked to the book - Beegu. In this video, we infer what Beegu might be saying at certain parts of the story and try translating his language into ours.

BEEGU IDEA 5 - IMPROVING ORAL FLUENCY

Here is the next idea in the series linked to the book Beegu. In this idea, we look at getting pupils to record themselves reading the story out loud. Giving children the opportunity to improve their oral fluency and look at pace, intonation, tone and volume.

BEEGU IDEA 6 - ZONES OF RELEVANCE

Here is the next idea in the series linked to Beegu. In this video, we look at exploring vocabulary linked to different parts of the story. Using the Zones of Relevance idea, pupils can sort words into groups depending on their relevance to the scene.

BEEGU IDEA 7 - DESIGNING BEEGU'S PLANET

In this next video linked to the book Beegu we look at using some Augmented Reality. Using the app Quiver, pupils can design Beegu's home planet and then bring it to life.

BEEGU IDEA 8 - INTERVIEWING BEEGU

Here is the next idea in the series linked to Beegu. In this video, we look at interviewing Beegu. This should allow pupils to demonstrate their understand and empathy towards the character and how the character feels during the story.

BEEGU IDEA 9 - RECREATING THE PLAYGROUND SCENE

​Another idea linked to the book Beegu using AR. In this video, pupils work in groups to recreate the playground scene from the book and place Beegu in the scene where pupils can share what they would say if Beegu was to appear in their playground.

BEEGU IDEA 10 - RETELLING THE STORY

Here is the next idea in the series linked to Beegu. Once we have explored the story, pupils can then create a video where they retell the story in their own words.

BEEGU IDEA 11 - CREATING OUR OWN ALIEN

Here is the next idea in the series linked to Beegu. Now we have explored the story, children can start to plan their own story. In this video, we look at creating our own Aliens to use in our story. ​

BEEGU IDEA 12 - DESCRIBING OUR ALIEN

Here is the next idea in the series linked to Beegu. In this video, we look at orally recording some phrases and sentences to help describe the Alien. This will then support the pupils when it comes to writing their own story similar to Beegu.

BEEGU IDEA 13 - PERFORMING OUR OWN STORY
